February 2, 1960, 60 years professed
Sr. Anne was born to parents James and Rebecca McBride Scahill on September 9, 1940, and made her first profession on February 2, 1960. After 60 years of religious life, Sr. Anne shares that “As a Daughter of Wisdom, I have been blessed to work in a school and parish that has been enriched for over 100 years by the Daughters of Wisdom and Montfort Fathers, and steeped in the heritage of St. Louis Marie de Montfort and Blessed Marie Louise Trichet.”
Sister Anne remains engaged in active ministry, serving for the last five years as the Daughters of Wisdom’s community representative at Sisters of St. Joseph Maria Regina Residence. Before that, she was dedicated to teaching, most recently at St. Mary Gate of Heaven in Ozone Park, New York, where she taught math for 45 years. Previously, she was a teacher for three years at Infant Jesus in Port Jefferson, New York, preceded by five years at Our Lady of Wisdom Academy. Before that, Sister was a cook at Mary Immaculate Novitiate in Litchfield, Connecticut, for two years.
A 1958 graduate of Our Lady of Wisdom Academy in Ozone Park, New York, Sister Anne went on to study mathematics at St. John’s University in Jamaica, New York, earning her BA in 1968, as well as a New York teaching certificate in Math for grades 7-12. She received an MA in Math from Hunter College in New York City in 1974.
Sister says that she is best known within the congregation as the last Daughter of Wisdom at St. Mary Gate of Heaven, and the sister who visits the Daughters of Wisdom who reside at Maria Regina Residence in Brentwood, NY.
Please join us in congratulating Sr. Anne Scahill, our “visiting Sister,” on 60 years of profession!
