Sisters Christine Scherer and Mary Stiefvater Recognized for Dedicated Service

Yesterday (6/27/21) the Parish community of St. Matthew’s RC Church in Brooklyn, NY, gathered for a special farewell Mass and reception for Sr. Christine Scherer, DW, 77, and Sr. Mary Stiefvater, DW, 81. The Mass was presided over by Rev. Frank Black, who recognized the sisters for their faithful service to the church and community, and encouraged them to embrace their future calls. After 40 years of being parishioners and active congregation members, the Sisters will be relocating to the Islip, NY community. From senior members to the youth who grew up in the congregation with Sr. Chris or Sr. Mary as their teacher, spiritual guide, or friend, gratefulness abounded and remarks that “had it not been for them, they did not know where they would be today.” Thank you, Sr. Chris and Sr. Mary! We know your Brooklyn family will miss you, but welcome you to the Islip community.
