We celebrate Sr. Thérèse (Aurelie) Michaud’s life and her entrance into new life. A Daughter of Wisdom, she entered eternal life on February 12, 2021, at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska, ME.

Thérèse Michaud, Sr. Aurelie, daughter of Emile and Agnes Picard Michaud, was born October 4, 1921, in Ste-Agathe, Maine. She made her religious profession on February 2, 1940, in Ottawa, Canada.

Sr. Aurelie was inspired by the Word of God and lived an extraordinary life in an ordinary way. This aspect of her life was expressed in various ministries, but especially valued was her ability to respond in service to those less fortunate. These ministries were nourished by her devotion to Mary and the presence of our Wisdom God in her life.

Sr. Aurelie, a woman of many talents, was called upon to serve as a teacher at Wharton Memorial Institution (Maryhaven Center of Hope, Port Jefferson, NY) for mentally challenged children. She also worked at St. Charles Clinic in Brooklyn, NY, and St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, NY, then an orthopedic residential hospital. She went to work in the expanded St. Charles general hospital, which became her home for twenty years. She found her work among the sick and the disabled very rewarding. She served as a nurse to our elderly and retired sisters at Miller Place and Sound Beach, New York. She served as the contact person in Ste-Agathe, Maine, ministering to patients as a visiting nurse in the area.

She served in West Virginia at Rhodell Clinic, a children’s clinic in Appalachia, and later became a member of an inter-community shelter for the homeless in Uniondale, NY. At the same time, she was also a volunteer at a newly opened AIDS shelter (East Meadow, NY). Sr. Aurelie and her team assisted in guiding some of these people to their heavenly home. God was definitely present in this home. Sr. Aurelie was the coordinator for the elderly sisters in Bristol, CT, and later served the sisters in Terryville, CT. Being close to Wisdom Center in Litchfield, CT, she took part in all of the wonderful spiritual sessions available, which she felt was a very rich experience.

In 2008, Sr. Aurelie returned to her hometown of Ste-Agathe, Maine, to be close to her family. She became a resident at Montfort Heights, located in the center of the community. With this move, Sr. Aurelie committed her life to fellowship and prayer.

Sr. Aurelie also was involved in parish work. Since 2018, she resided at Ridgewood Estates in Madawaska, ME, where she led the daily rosary and served as a lector at Mass.

Celebrating 80 years of religious life, on February 2, 2020, she was recognized as the Doyenne of the American Province and the most senior citizen of St. Agatha, Maine.

Sr. Aurelie is survived by her siblings Lewis Michaud of Augusta, ME, and Dorilda (Normand) Daigle of Madawaska, ME, adopted by Pépère and Mémère; Joan Michaud Hebert and Donald Michaud of Madawaska, ME. Several devoted nieces and nephews and their families and the Daughters of Wisdom Community. She was pre-deceased by her parents, brothers Norman, Aurel, Camille, and sister, Rita Lavoie.
